I just wrote a long post about my cc debt and I accidently hit something and now its gone. oh well.
I have cancelled 2 cc's this year. I know its not good to cancel them, but I'm not making any big ticket purchase like a house or car anytime soon.
I cancelled one because of what I felt was poor customer service. And they didn't even beg me to stay! I called myself staying on top of the bill and was making payments as I used the card. It was an airline miles card. Well apparently I paid too early because they slapped me with a late fee for the next period. They said it was too early for the payment to be posted for the next cycle. Whatever. I was mad so I cancelled the card.
I cancelled another one because it has an annual fee. Last year I called and they waived it. This year they didn't waive it and it has a zero balance. So I told them to close the account. I'm not paying no annual fee! and get this they cancelled the fee once I cancelled the card. But you could have waived it kept me as a customer. Makes no sense.
So this leaves me with 2-capital one and my credit union visa. I want to cancel the capital one but I'm waiting for the right time. It has a zero balance. It also has an annual fee, which they waived this year.
I cancelled a victoria's secret card last year. They don't sell enough stuff I can wear to justify keeping the card. So I still have my NY&CO card, Firestone card: store cards. I used to have a Macy's and a Sears card. Soooo glad I don't have a Macy's card anymore. I'd be in real trouble! Can't say I won't open one in the future, though! I got the Macy's card just to buy one dress. Then I paid the purchase off and closed the card. I got the sears card because my battery died and (of course) I had no money for a new one. I closed these before I knew you weren't supposed to close cards all willy nilly.
Early next year I'm going to call my CU and ask for an interest reduction on that CC. So far that game has not worked for me. They will raise the limit but won't lower the interest rate. Whatever.
You know, I am willing to learn about personal finance, but some stuff will continue to be over my head. Hey, I can't be good at everything. Plus I think I inherited the spending disease from my mom. I haven't looked at my IRA statement in over a year. I couldn't tell you what fund is what. I just know I have one, how much its worth and that's it!

I've been trying to get rid of my NY& CO card for the last year. But it never fails, as soon as I get the balance low enough, they have a great sale that I can't pass up.
Thankfully, I only have two other credit carda and one is not activated, so I can't run that one up again.
